Liz and Sam at The Maynard - A windy wedding in a small world
My mum is the type of person who talks to anyone and I mean anyone, she’s a friendly outgoing type of lady who would help anyone if they needed it. So when I found out Liz & Sam lived opposite my grandma and around the corner from my mum, I was not surprised my mum knew them. Before meeting the lovely Liz & Sam I heard them when I was chatting with my mum on the phone and the happened to pass Liz on a walk and pleasantries were exchanged. Not only do they know my Mum, Sam heroically or stupidly (if you are viewing things from my Mums point of view) intervened when a naughty individual tried stealing my parents car. Our opinion is it was heroic, and our view was only bolstered after we properly met him and found out he is a thoroughly nice chap. Which is brilliantly equaled by Liz’s loveliness.
So the world is a small place, but apparently it was going to get smaller when we arrived at The Maynard and Alexandra recognised Liz’s sister. They used to work with each other years ago. So welcome to Sheffield, the UK’s biggest village!
Before the wedding day we always have a meeting to run through timings, details and see if there is anything the couple wants. Couple shots was brought up and as The Maynard is in the Peak District and right down the road from Padley Gorge it was a no brainer to go and do some photographing and filming of the couple there, Liz even planned to bring her hiking boots. That was the plan, and we love a plan. So when in the morning it was raining then sunny then raining then sunny then hailing all whilst being windy enough to blow dogs off their leads, we thought potentially it wasn’t going to happen. Especially when we saw Sam for groom prep and found out he had a broken foot (probably the result of some heroic gallantry or maybe miscalculating a step into his garden). So my Dads voice was ringing around my head with his favourite phrase about plans “no plans survives contact with the enemy” not too sure who the enemy was in this instance, maybe local landscapers and meteorologists?
So we had cold, rain, wind and an injured groom, but all credit to them as Liz donned her hiking boots and a coat that would make the fresh prince envious. We all clambered into our car drove 2 seconds to Padley Gorge and braved the elements resulting in some dramatic moody photos and footage. I even discovered when a lens is covered in rain drops whilst shooting into the sun make for some great effects, let’s call it rain flare.
The wedding was a joy from start to finish especially when meeting the new wedding coordinator who made the day run beautifully and was an all round lovely person to work alongside, shoutout to Katie. You run a tight ship!
As a married couple who work together we spend a lot of time together we are definitely best friends. So it makes sense we attract couples are also best friends and that is 100% the case with these two as it showed throughout the day, Liz even mentioned it on the day during her speech. That’s another thing we loved, 6 speeches and half were women. We love a woman’s perspective and I especially love it for editing my highlight films, it creates a dialogue for the couple and makes for a more well rounded film with different of points of views.
Thank you for Liz and Sam for choosing us as your photo and film team. It was bloody lovely.
“The Crowthers captured our wedding last month! They were fab from their first email; professional and efficient but with a great sense of humour. On the day, they were like ninjas- capturing all the best moments without being noticed! They clearly have a passion for what they do and delivering what their clients want. For us this involved not only a very muddy, windy, cold photo shoot in the peaks (the results were breathtaking!) but capturing beautiful moments of our young very energetic children!! Everyone has commented on how beautiful the photos and video are! We are beyond grateful that we chose The Crowthers to cover our special day! Thanks again!”
