A Chic Cumbrian Eden Barn Wedding with Beautiful Personal Vows

Their Wedding Film

Getting Ready

We both did getting ready shots for both Brad and Megan. They chose to get ready at a big country house near the venue, before they separated and Megan went to do the finishing touches and get into her dress at Eden Barn. They went to the venue in excellent style in a VW Van whilst Brad and his groomsmen continued to get ready, open their pressies and put on ties. We then headed over to Eden Barn for capturing Megan’s final bits of getting ready and first looks, before setting up for the ceremony.

I loved how Megan really wanted a flat lay of all their special items in the morning and had kept everything aside for me to do it first thing, which is my ideal! Love an organised couple. We chose not to do a big shot of her dress on the hanger because they wanted a mixture of getting ready photos of both of them. We always encourage couples to let us know what’s important to them and what’s not. A big dress shot isn’t making or breaking your gallery, so we definitely recommend thinking about moments/items that are most important to you and letting us know.

The Ceremony

Their wedding ceremony was absolutely beautiful. They had the most amazing registrar that somehow doubled up as a celebrant and made their wedding so personal. They chose really lovely personal vows, tears were shed, laughs too and they also included a ring warming ceremony. The beautiful ceremony space at Eden Barn perfectly emulated such a romantic wedding. We absolutely loved this heartfelt ceremony and hopefully the pics speak for themselves!

Drinks Reception and Group Photos

So Megan & Brad’s day decided to bring almost every type of weather possible. Getting to the venue started off interestingly, being stuck behind a whole heard of cows in the rain. Group photos was another interesting event with high winds, rain stopping and starting between blaring sun.

During reception the Northern House Band played (which we highly recommend) whilst everyone enjoyed drinks and chats sheltering from the spitting rain.

Styling

The florals were put together by Bluebells and Daisies and the banner was by Daydreamer Creative Studio. It perfectly tied in with Brad & Megan’s aesthetic for the day and with Eden Barn itself. It had a wonderful chic romantic vibe throughout, especially with the candlelight and fairy lights. Trestle tables always look stunning with candles and florals and the layout of everything came together beautifully.

They chose a small cake to do a private cake cutting (see pics further down) which was fully vegan and made by Bad Cherry Bakery.

Afternoon Couples Shoot

Across the road from Eden Barn, they own a beautiful patch of land full of wild flowers and a little stream also runs through it. It’s absolutely perfect for some beautiful portraits. Megan had let us know there were a few shots she’d like and we love it when couples have a vision of what they’re wanting! The skies also went really moody and grey, which made for perfect romantic moody shots that I just loved. With a little breeze in the air too, Megan’s veil kept lifting in the air adding to the whole vibe. I just adored this couples shoot.

Dinner and Speeches

Eden Barn turned the ceremony room around for the dinner and speeches and had beautifully put together trestle tables, with candlelight. Megan and Brad chose to have a fully vegan menu and it was absolutely phenomenal. Out of this world good! As always, we love when women have a voice at weddings and they decided to do a joint speech, which we highly recommend to couples if you’re on the fence about both doing one or if you’re a Bride unsure.

Evening Couples Shoot

Considering the start of day’s weather and how we’d gone through moody clouds, rain and wind and cold, to end the day with a golden hour was just lovely! We barely got golden hour with last year’s weddings. Which can happen and we do always let couples know it can’t be guaranteed as it’s so dependant on location, where the sun is setting and how overcast it is. But for Megan and Brad’s wedding, magic happened. I love how romantic and fun these photos feel, which is a nice reminder to all that you can have both those things!

Private Cake Cutting

Megan and Brad chose to have a private cake cutting with their wedding party. We thought this was a fab idea! Especially when many couples are finding the costs of a wedding cake is not something they can budget for to feed everyone and then often, it doesn’t get eaten. So they opted for a smaller vegan cake for them to cut away from all of their guests. We went a bit editorial/high flash for this shot which I love doing!

Wedding Cake Tip: If you still want to have a cake but you are worried it won’t get eaten; either opt for a smaller cake and scale it back like Megan and Brad did or serve it at your drinks reception/cocktail hour where it’s much more likely to get eaten than the evening portion of your wedding.

Dancing and Drinks

Northern House Band played in the evening, kicking off with their first dance before everyone joined in on the dance floor. They were a really good professional band that got the room going and really nice to chat to. We do watch a lot of bands at weddings and it’s always great when you work alongside one that’s professional but also happy to chat to you but mostly, they can get the room going!

They had a whole bunch of sunglasses for people to wear, which always makes for fun photo opportunities and this did not disappoint!

Champagne Spray and Shot Ski

A couple of things that Brad and Megan let us know they wanted capturing was the Shot Ski and the champagne spray with their wedding party! We’re always up for something unique and different at a wedding so we did both these things towards the end of the night. I honestly had no clue what a shot ski was until this but you live and you learn! Not sure I’d fare well in any skiing environment. They used the ski for people to sign, which was lovely and personal to them.

We always recommend couples do champagne sprays toward the end of the night partially because we get covered in it and end up smelling like a brewery but also everyone eases into it a bit more in the evening. Probably for the same reason to be honest! So as you can see we got smothered.

Tip: Buy non alcoholic Prosecco. It works the same and at half the cost, then you can buy the nice champagne and have it on the side to drink from the bottle! You’re welcome.

That’s it! Bloody loved this wedding. Can’t believe it’s taken this long to blog about it but I’m a slow blogger. Wishing Brad and Megan the best life together.
