A Stylish Romantic North Yorkshire Wedding at Bunny Hill Weddings
Getting Ready
https://bunnyhillweddings.co.uk is a lovely venue in the heart of North Yorkshire and the setting for Emily & James’ wedding. They had accommodation onsite for both parties, which always makes for a relaxed start of the day.
Emily was getting ready in the suit situated at the top of the outdoor spiral staircase, where we got some lovely morning shots of everyone getting prepped and having their makeup done. The list was really beautiful for details shots, capturing Emily’s dress from https://dottybridal.co.uk
We also got some shots of James and the Groomsmen having a drink in the sun out in the accommodation courtyard and against the ceremony venue wall. There’s so many amazing spots for photo’s and video!
The Ceremony
The Ceremony space was decorated with beautiful florals from https://willowandbearfloraldesign.com. They had a fairly short registrar ceremony with one of their friend’s doing 2 lovely readings: the first was ‘here's to right now’ by ms moem and the second was the song Happiness is You but Johnny Cash (which as a big JC fan, Calum was thrilled to use that in his video)!
It was a beautifully romantic ceremony, full of emotion and joy and all the good things! What I really loved was the little moment between Emily and James when they’d signed their papers. I just captured their hand holding, little knowing glances and touches now they were officially married. I love capturing moments like that.
Confetti and Cocktail Hour
Weather was all good so confetti was had outside and it was one of the longest lines of guests we have had in a while! They got absolutely smothered. The best kind of confetti lines!
We then went into having drinks and cocktails and everyone chatting away. This is the time I go straight into groups and Calum is off filming somewhere, doing his thing. The wind was strong that day and the sun was out so we had a few switch up of locations to battle both wind direction and massive shadows but we got them done so Emily & James could enjoy chatting to everyone and some much needed downtime post ceremony.
Styling
Florals for the dining room were also supplied by https://willowandbearfloraldesign.com and I couldn’t stop banging on about the beautiful glassware. I just think it elevates a table and room! I’ve reached that point in my life. Tables were lit with candles and everything was decorated with a beautiful simplicity with the floral stands bringing it all together. I absolutely love a trestle table for speech shots and getting people’s reactions. Especially with the stunning window back drop. It all felt very effortless and chic!
Afternoon Couples Shoot
We knew that both Emily & James didn’t want anything super posey and wanted it nice and relaxed so we went in with a plan of action with lots of walking shots and spending time together chatting about silly things but getting them to focus on each other. We really want to work with our couples, so you feel at ease and yourself first and foremost. So we can get the smiles and laughter out of you.
I absolutely adored their couples shoots. Emily and James were so at ease with each other and I think it shines through. For us, it’s all about capturing the little looks at each other and being in the moment.
Dinner and Speeches
Speeches were fantastic. Like I’ve already said, trestle tables makes for some lovely viewpoints for capturing reactions and I love doing these in portraits to get a bit of foreground and setting. I delivered a lot of these in colour and black and white to give a bit of a timeless classic feel.
I’ve also become partial to dinner enjoyment action shots (not sure what else to call it). But just having everyone clinking their drinks, pictures of the tables with food/or just eaten and just ‘feeling’ the enjoyment had by your guests in a photo. For me, it’s an extension of that documentary ‘in the moment’ feeling. But I don’t do it constantly because I know people want to enjoy their food in peace. I get in, get out.
Evening Couples Shoot
After speeches and food, we took Emily and James out again. We mostly (apart from winter weddings) always take our couples out twice for about 15 minutes each. Once before speeches and food and then later. So you have a bit of variety in light and timing.
We got some beautiful shots amongst the trees and festoons as well as a beautiful golden hour! They even snuck a cheeky photo of us capturing them (I think that might be a first).
With evening shots, it’s always my aim to try and capture a bit more movement as mostly, couples are more relaxed at this point. If golden hour is also on the cards, movement with beautiful light is always a winner. So we focused on lots of walking shots, little prompts, following the light, lots of laughs and a cheeky kiss or two!
Dancing and Drinks
We went straight into their first dance with Tom from Wedding Jam DJing. Who is fab by the way. Hire him.
People really got into it and we got some good dancing captured. We always love to get right into the dance floor and get involved. We normally find a good 30 minutes of dancing is enough time for us to capture everything we need. And that’s also about the time people tend to wander off for a drink or sit down.
I tried something new that evening, where I captured everyone dancing on a really slow shutter to pick up all the movement. I love to mix in the classic good shots of everyone dancing with flash and then some more artistic shots!
We absolutely loved this wedding and also definitely didn’t say no to James buying us some bubbly, too. Everyone was so friendly and easy to be around. A thoroughly good time had by all! Sending lots of love to Emily and James and your future together xxx
