A Margherita Margarita Wedding in the heart of North Yorkshire

The Wedding Ceremony

What a wedding! Dan & Lois were absolutely lovely and had such a lovely wedding, too. They had planned a beautiful ceremony at Ripon Cathedral, which was grand to say the least. They had family and friends either side and had some very useful groomsmen to make sure strangers didn’t come in to sneakily watch their wedding! Which 100% happens in Churches!

I loved using the ornate gold bars? Fencing? Not sure what you’d call it! But loved using it for shallow depth of field flare! Just to add more grandeur to their ceremony space. I also absolutely adored Dan’s Pale blue suits and honestly think more pale blue suit’s should be worn.

Never shying away from a good black and white, I definitely loved making these images feel timeless and classic.

Once the ceremony was finished, we all headed out to the front of the cathedral for confetti (well, confetti wands)! You can’t do real confetti outside the cathedral so they used confetti wands instead.

Couples, Groups and a Very Yellow Beetle

We stayed at the Cathedral for family group photos and a few couples photos before we headed off to the village hall. What I loved about Dan & Lois is they had this lovely playfulness and so did their families, which really came through in their group photos and their couples pics. I often ask couples to do a pretend drunk walk whilst bumping hips (because it creates good movement in camera and smiles, too). Not realising that these two were rather competitive and so Lois ended up falling over! Very gracefully I might add and all in good jest!

Note: please let me know if you are a competitive couple for future reference. Please & Thank you. :D

They then headed off to the Village Hall in Lois’ Beetle. Which Dan decided to drive (with one shoe on and one shoe off - there was a shoe issue). It took a minute to get all of Lois’ dress in there but I love how her first car, was on this journey with her and Dan and Lois as a married pair! They drove off carefully and slowly…

Village Hall Afternoon and Pizza

Once we got to the Village Hall, the pizza truck by https://www.doughdisciples.co.uk was fired up and almost ready to serve and everyone had already started on the Margs. They had card games, beer pong and other games for everyone to play, which honestly is proving more and more popular for wedding guests and I’m here for it! Wedding guests love a good activity over drinks and it makes for some great candids. Highly recommend.

We did the rest of the more casual group photos at the village hall, which I always offer if you’re having two locations for your wedding. So we did the wedding party and friends photos at the village hall.

Pizza was served to soak up some of that Tequila and everyone was just having a great time! The photo below isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I do love to get messy table photos of people’s remnants of having a good time. Maybe it’s the millennial in me fighting back the pristine Instagram world. But for me, they’re photos saying your guests had a bloody good time.

We then went out for some more couples photos and I adore the absolute personality and freedom in these pictures. I’m all about working with our couples and capturing your love and friendship together, your personalities together and having photos that feel like you.

Dancing and Drinks

They had a small cake to cut, which I think is a great idea for couples not wanting to spend the earth on cake that often doesn’t get eaten. Followed by a downing of one beer and one glass of red wine (see photos). Then the even started to become absolute carnage in what I can only describe in the best way possible. It was one of the best dance floors at a wedding I’ve ever seen.

There was much hugging and kissing and love in the room for everyone. My job is to watch and capture and mainly watch how people interact with each other. I really felt the love Dan and Lois’ guests had for them, their wonderful friendships and lovely families. It was really something special to witness and one I’ll always remember.

They had the band https://www.hydefamilyjam.com which I cannot stop singing praises about. They were phenomenal. If you want a really talented and professional folk style band, then get these guys. They brought the house down. They did modern songs in a folk style, classic folk songs and even ‘The Bear Necessities” which everyone went mad for. I will happily recommend them over and over for doing such a fantastic job and being so nice to chat too.

The evening ended with the last group photos of the groomsmen/Dan’s friends piling in for a big drunken cuddle. Absolutely bloody loved this wedding. And I wish Dan and lots all the happiest things for their future!
