A Timeless English Church and Tipi Wedding in West Sheffield with a Bronze Bugle to Boot
The Day
This was a classic Sheffield Wedding through and through. Olivia got ready at the lovely Stables in Dore, which is down a little country road with chickens and turkeys on the doorstep. They then married at Fulwood Christ Church, leading onto their reception venue at The Cricket Inn. With one of the best dance floors we’ve seen, homemade Welsh cakes to die for and some thoroughly good speeches; this made for one of those lovely family and friend filled weddings that was so natural to capture.
Getting Ready
They chose to get ready at The Stables over in Dore, which is a converted cottage space perfect for morning prep. It’s over looking the countryside straight into the Peak District without it being too far out from Sheffield City Centre.
Wedding Ceremony and Confetti
They chose to marry at Fulwood Christ Church and arrived in a vintage Beetle and the bridesmaids arrived in a camper van. Mike cried as Olivia walked down the aisle (see highlight film)! and it was such a touching ceremony filled with love and deep friendship.
After the ceremony, we chose to do the confetti down the Church path where everyone pelted them with dried rose petals. We kept some people back for group photos.
Wedding Tip: If you’re marrying in a Church you can choose to do some group photos (such as family) at the Church and the rest of your group photos (such as friends) at your reception venue.
Drinks Reception
Olivia and Mike headed over to The Cricket Inn in the Beetle. Everyone had drinks and sat outside. They had chosen a tipi in the grounds to the back of the pub, as well as having access to the pub for dancing later on.
Everyone was milling about having a lovely time whilst there was a cricket match on. Once it had finished, Olive and Mike decided to have a go at a bit of competitive couples cricket! We tried to not get hit!
Couples Portraits
We chose two locations for couples portraits; the road past The Stables where they got ready which leads into the Peak District. It’s a really quiet country road for some lovely intimate moments. We also did some couples photos at The Cricket Inn using the black wooden panels and some walking shots on the road by the pub.
Wedding Tip: It’s a really nice opportunity to have two shot lots of couples portraits before and after your meal. The light in the day changes and can be a bit softer later on. So it’s worth splitting it so you aren’t away from everything for too long and you get a nice variety.
Evening reception
Highlight of the evening was Mike’s Grandma handing out freshly made welsh cakes, which were delicious! They also had a fantastic band that really got the party going and everyone went for it. Which always makes a great evening! Everyone was dancing and having an absolute blast.
Wedding Tip: If you are really wanting a good dance floor, then we highly recommend a band. A good band really get the dance floor going more than a DJ, in our experience. It really pulls the evening together.
The Cricket Inn is a perfect wedding venue for those wanting a family and friends focussed home wedding, with good food and drink. Definitely a better choice for spring and summer months, it’s a perfect spot if you’re getting married elsewhere.
