A Very Rainy Countryside Sheffield Wedding with Umbrellas, Champagne, Campervans and Dogs
The Day
On the outskirts of Sheffield is a lovely country garden wedding venue called Woodthorpe Hall Weddings, which is a family home who hold only several weddings a year and they have such beautiful grounds to hold your wedding. Emma & Chris chose to have their ceremony in the outdoors followed by a sailcloth tent reception within the gardens. Think English summer garden party, featuring a bit of rain! Which did clear up later in the day.
Getting Ready
They chose to get ready at The Stables over in Dore, which is a converted cottage space perfect for morning prep. It’s particular ideal for smaller wedding parties and a lovely little countryside style stay. The bride left prep in a beautiful campervan, which was perfect for some photos later on, too!
Wedding Ceremony and Confetti
The ceremony was an outdoor ceremony held by a celebrant, with a hand fastening. This is when it started to rain so everyone whipped out their umbrellas. They’d previously got married officially, so this ceremony was full of personal words and full of meaning.
They had confetti down the aisle, and had lots of it! Even thought it was raining, it didn’t stop the confetti floating and going everywhere.
Wedding Tip: If you don’t have an indoor back up location for your ceremony and it does start to rain, make sure you have plenty of big umbrellas for all of your guests and yourselves that are easily accessible.
Drinks Reception
The garden reception featured outdoor seating, a drinks van by Gray Shepherd Events and lots of lovely florals. They had an outdoor champagne tower, dogs all about and group photos on the grounds. By this point the rain was easing so everyone could enjoy time out in the open!
Details
They had lots of greenery and olive trees, with dried wildflower table pieces with guests names. Each table was named after a location the couple enjoyed spending time at such as The Peak District and The Lake District. It had a beautiful english garden simplicity to it.
Couples Portraits
We went to two main locations for the couples portraits - the wheat field next to the garden, which you can access through the gate. Then, we went to the Campervan! We always like to mix it up so you have a bit of variety from your day. There’s lots of options at Woodthorpe! They also included their dog for a few of them.
Wedding Tip: Make time to split your couple’s portraits for before you sit down for food and after, so you have different light in your images (later on can be a bit softer). But also, so you don’t feel like you’re being taken away from guests for too long and you can enjoy your day.
Evening reception
The sailcloth tent featured festoons which lit up beautifully in the evening and the rain had pretty much gone by this point. Everyone continued ordering drinks from the van and enjoying the music. The bride also sang some songs too, as she’s a singer herself which made for a great show for guests! They cut the cake, everyone danced and then the trolley on fire was brought out (A woodthorpe classic) to end the night on.
Woodthorpe Hall Weddings is a beautiful local Sheffield venue for those not wanting the industrial look a lot of Sheffield weddings offers. If you’re wanting more countryside but staying near to Sheffield then Woodthorpe is perfect for just that!
