Ann and Matthew at The Ashes Barns - What came first the chicken or the egg pun?

Alexandra’s favourite meal is kakuni, for those not in the know it’s is belly pork cooked in soy sauce, ginger and sake served with rice and greens. Safe to say it is pretty god damn good especially with an egg.

I have a long held belief that Everything is improved with an egg. Ann and Matthews day proves that weddings are no exception, but I’ll come back to that! Back to my lovely wife’s favourite meal, for someone whos favourite meal is pork she loves animals like no other, except now I’m thinking Ann might be a real contender for the crown and for good reason!

When we met Ann & Matt online we chatted about a lot of wedding related things but we got a little sidetracked (as is our modus operandi) firstly their love of country music. I also love country music but mine and their tastes are about 40 years apart. I’m a massive Johnny Cash fan and I’m partial to some Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams too. Theirs is more modern and I wouldn’t dream of listing artists they like, you know what they say about assuming. But we also chatted about animals and our shared love of them. We reminisced about us having chickens (we named one after June Carter) as they have their own little brood and how they have two brother goats named Joey and Chandler and their good boy Rex. Their plan was for the animals to feature in their day and they were as good as their word.

When we met last year in person for their pre wedding shoot in the peaks we also met their lovely pup Rex and we could tell immediately how much they loved that old chap. Who had a pretty rough start to life, but had the very best and I mean the very best life when he was adopted by the wonderful Ann & Matthew. Safe to say we were besotted with Rex too.  We got to know them better, met Rex and did a shoot in the fog, it was ace! Might have to bring a smoke machine to all of our shoots from now on!

Unfortunately Rex couldn’t make it to the wedding but he and their menagerie of animals were definitely represented with Rex featuring alongside Matts Dad on his cuff links (one of the photos from the pre wedding shoot, to which we are utterly flattered). He was also a part of the table plan with all the tables being named after all their animals. This is where I discovered their flock all have egg pun names. To name a few, Quiche Latifa, Benedict Spears and Scramble Gomez. We were planning on getting some more chickens next year and this has lit a flame under us. We are thinking Egg Sheeran, Yolk Ono & Tracey Beaker! Any suggestions are welcome! The night ended with what was a first for us and something I would love to capture again, a saxophonist and bongoist. Is that the right term? Maybe a bongoer? Bongopher? Bongoengineer? And to top it off I captured a him and hers worm!
